Aerodynamicist

We are searching for an Engineering Aerodynamicist to provide support and conduct testing on historical and new products in various wind tunnels and icing tunnels to develop aerodynamic record and icing performance of our products.  In addition, the engineer will be the technical lead for all aerodynamic and icing analysis for internal and external customer interface.  She or he will assist in the design of new products through aerodynamic analysis.  As part of a cross-functional team, he or she will draw on the resources of Product Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Planning, Purchasing and other functions to accomplish company objectives.          

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform tests and analyze tunnel and CFD data on our historical products.
  • Perform tests and analyze tunnel and CFD data on new air data probes.
  • Perform tests and analyze tunnel and flight test data to verify accuracy of CFD models.
  • Support project efforts to achieve FAA Approval on assigned hardware within allotted timeframe. 
  • Represent Aero-Instruments as technical lead on aerodynamic and icing performance to customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Support the development of component and assembly mechanical drawings, measurements and material evaluations of OEM parts using state-of-the-art equipment and techniques.
  • Conduct thermal analysis with CFD software.
  • Work in conjunction with operations to support existing product through testing, calculations and analysis.
  • Prepare and submit certification packages for FAA Approval.
  • Supervise and mentor design engineers and designers.
  • Perform additional duties and assignments, as required.

 

Skills and Experience:     

    • Minimum of Masters Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
    • Aerospace wind tunnel calibration, setup and operation required.
    • Icing Tunnel experience preferred.
    • Thorough understanding of mechanical design with aerodynamic and CFD analysis.
    • Prior knowledge of aerodynamic probe design along with wind-tunnel based studies of flow through internal components and features a plus.
    • Strong written and verbal communication.
    • Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes, materials and coatings a plus.
    • Working knowledge in FAA Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) preferred.
    • Experience in Pro/E software preferred.
    • Strong work ethic.
    • A high attention to detail.
    • Must be flexible in handling multiple tasks.
